The program is really about enabling kids to enhance their reading, learning and research skills. We have used a project-based approach towards it. Because if you look at modern skills – it is a combination of multiple skills at different levels. You have to collaborate with the various other people to accomplish a goal. Therefore, the objective for the kids is to learn planning, leadership, reading and writing in an integrated real-life fashion. Why writing? Well, do you know that the first step in modern-day communication is usually an email? Every student’s writing ability is measured at the start and end of the program – and we often see an entire grade level worth of improvement in just 3 months. We guarantee a steady improvement in the Flesh Kincaid writing scores of all the students in the program. Flesch Kincaid or FK is an automated measure of the readability of written text. The lesser the number more readable the text. That is exactly the aim we want to accomplish.
It is a program for 7 to 14-year-olds that are artistically inclined. If your kids are gifted and talented, students who might want to take an additional project – this is a perfect opportunity. This is for any parent or child who wants to express their thought and put their words in the form of a book. Do you know that children’s book in amazon alone is a 3 Billion USD market? While the primary aim of this program is to accelerate learning and provide a keepsake for the parents to cherish at all times to come, this is the perfect platform to start your journey into the world of becoming a published author. And as we like to say here – you are just one book away from success. Further, think about a situation when kids have it in their college application that they are already a published author. Make no mistake it’s not a program to throw some words and pictures and print a book. If that is what you are looking for – you can perhaps do such vanity printing from your local Office Depot. But if you want an authentic learning experience look no further. Twelve sessions of writing, revision and spreading your ideas. This is a fun and challenging program all the way. Whether your child loves writing or it’s a challenging activity for him – the winning words project will make the students fall in love with the written words. Many students who are interested in drawing find this program a great extension to their core interest where they can add words to the drawing and images they are already creating.
The kids are welcome to select any type of subject (fiction or non-fiction) at the beginning of the course. They will iteratively work through their topic in each class. Every class consists of actual lessons, followed by the practice exercises. The entire course actually covers various types of writing – story, poem, opinion, essays, etc. No matter what the area the students choose to write a book, they will have lifetime access to all the lessons and any updates to the course as it’s done through the lifetime of the course. The detailed course contents are available on our website.
It has two parts – The 12 class training on the art of writing with practical exercises. And the other part consists of actually packaging and publishing the book. In this section, let’s go in detail of what the various 12 different classes look like. It starts with the orientation of various types of books – fiction, non-fiction, narratives, and memoirs, etc. It teaches them a guided way to write their books in a step-by-step manner. The program includes a full-fledged writing program that consists of – Parts of speech, different types of writing styles, elements of storytelling, and developing a writing routine. We build the writing skills of the students by choosing a story or topic that the students are passionate about and use that as a foundation to build their skills. Think about Dinosaurs, Legos, and other superheroes!
Our instructors will dynamically adjust to the grade-level standard of the student during the course. For example, if a 7-year child might learn just the weights and distance of planets when writing a book about the solar system. On one hand, a 14-year-old may explore concepts of gravity and relativity when writing a book on planets. So it does not matter whether the child is a beginner or an advanced student, the course will always adjust to his grade levels to provide a suitable challenging atmosphere for him to complete the course.
A typical children’s book can be as few as 50 words. There is no upper word limit. We do not encourage counting words. The main aim is to write to convey the central idea of the book. Once the book subject is finalized, expect a lot of prompts regularly to develop the text effectively. We encourage you to send us the text material via notepad, email or any other electronic means. Expect a lot of back & forth – in a fun and interesting manner for the child to develop the written material. Experts say that writing is nothing but re-writing and revision. The core of the winning words bookmaking program is based on this fundamental premise.
The publisher on the record will be the Winning Words project. Included in the program are formatting, editing, layout, and images (if not provided) selection and use in the book. We use Amazon’s publishing program partnership to publish the books. 80% of the market is controlled by Amazon so it is enough to list it in Amazon – however, if you are looking for expanded distribution across other channels like B&N, please let us know and we can do that for a small fee. Please note that whether your book will be available in retail stores is at the discretion of B&N – it’s worth asking your local retailers if they want to carry the book. At the minimum, we highly recommend you to donate the book to your local library where they can showcase the book prominently for the patrons. We will list and optimize the book listing in the right categories for you to give appropriate exposure to the book. We will also promote it via our social media accounts. The publishing account is handed over to the parents so that they can keep track of the loyalties. The entire loyalties from the Amazon are for the students/parent to keep. Winning words project does not receive or accept loyalty.
Well very simple. Popular to contrary opinion illustrations DO NOT sell books or make it any more attractive to read if the story is not strong enough. We have found that using stock images use perfectly well for the purposes of the book. In fact, many popular adult authors also use stock images. But kids have a unique opportunity – they can just draw or scribble what the story character or setting is. And we just scan them and make it a part of the book. Let me know what questions you have and we can discuss!
Yes, we guarantee that we will work with the child as long as it needs to accomplish the writing that is needed for the book. During your free trial class and exercise, you will get an idea of what to expect in the rest of the classes – so there are no surprises. Although there are just 12 classes and exercises – there is no limitation to the revision and feedback. We will support an unlimited number of revisions – till the time the work is the best that is possible. From that perspective, we are unlike any other course but more like a project partner to make sure the work is done. After your free trial, there is no refund of any kind – you can, however, transfer your purchase to any other student if you like.
